Statistics from Queensland Police show that around 25% of fatal car crashes in our district involve driving under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol consupmtion affects phsycial and mental functioning, leading to cognitive impairment such as on judgement, memory, coordination and reaction time.
These crashes could be avoided by people making smarter, safer decisions before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle. The easiest option is if you are planning to drink, organise another way home beforehand, such as having a designated driver, catching public transport or a taxi. We also need to look out for each – mates should make sure mates don’t drive drunk.
To show the devastating consequences of these types crashes, RAAG has produced the Consequences video. These resources are free for anyone to use and share, we just ask you reference RAAG when using them.
Consequences
Consequences examines the consequences to everyone involved in traffic crashes. This video tells the story of a drunk driver who veered onto the wrong side of the road, crashing head on into a car and killing the driver. The drunk driver survived, and this video highlights the consequences of their decisions.
The project partnership included the offender, victim’s family, community, RAAG volunteers, and government agencies. Please share this video, in the aim of educating others on the impacts of road trauma, not just to the victim and victim’s family, but also the offender.
